Mrs Nellie (Mc) McNamara – 40 years of battling bureaucracy
Mc, as she loves to be known, has finally been overcome by the ‘getting no younger’ factor, and is no longer able to use her expertise, computers and home-office resources to battle the bureaucracy on behalf of her son and others with disabilities.
She never gave up against the Department of Human Services, Disability Services, Victoria, no matter how many times and ways they intimidated her.
Her very well equipped home-office allowed her to produce and process extensive correspondence which helped to ensure all government agencies were well aware of the very questionable services of DHS, Disability Services, over so many years.
Despite Mc’s super persistence, the said government department remained well protected behind its green-zone defensive barriers. But, boy, did she rattle these barriers!
Like most who are prepared to stand-up for the rights of disadvantaged people, Mc was prepared to “keep-on, keeping-on” until she was no longer able – And she did!
It was delightful for Mc, that her son was finally moved from one of the department’s most shocking group homes, to one of its best whilst she was still well and able.
Well done, Mc… You have been a real dynamo over so many years!
