State Government (Victoria) continuing to be a service provider
under the NDIS, pending the transfer of its group home
services to Non-Government Service Providers
The move to the NDIS means the transition of support service funding from DHHS block to NDIS IFP for the residents of SSA group homes currently funded by DHHS (Department of Health & Human Services, Victoria) block funding,
The residents of DHHS managed SSA group homes, especially, will have their basic service assessment needs defined for, and provided to the NDIS by the DHHS. And, that consumers (residents and their stakeholders) will only be part of the assessment process if they consider they need additional support features.
There is, therefore, the need for consumers (now participants in the NDIS) to receive the defined details of the support services which the DHHS or NGO is claiming to be providing the participant, Without this, the participant, (a) is unable to evaluate the service for which the participant is paying from their NDIS IFP and, (b) is unable to consider what additional support services they may need to seek from the NDIS through the LAC (Local Area Coordinator).
All residents of group homes throughout Victoria who are advised they are about to become participants in the NDIS should request a detailed and documented evaluation of the services which the service provider is claiming, to the NDIS, to be providing the resident/participant.
This is within equal oportunity with those receiving support services for the first time. They will have a formal face to face service assessment of their reasonable and necessary needs well documented.
